Moyie River 7/2013

Jesse and Amy Fox Family Moyie Memories July 31-August 3, 2013
Thursday: We got up to the cabin around 10pm.  Yay!  Jesse aimed the head lights from our car at the water pump and he put in the new one Uncle Chuck had prepared.  Uncle Chuck gave great instructions and Jesse was able to get it working fairly quickly.  We unpacked the car in the meantime and went to bed.
Friday: We woke up and ate Costco muffins for breakfast.  We had a lazy morning and since we didn't get phone service or emails we were in an odd state of relaxation and didn't even check what time it was that day until about 8pm when we realized we had no clue how much of the day had passed.  It was awesome.  It was cooler, but dry so we took advantage of the outdoors due to the rain we knew would be coming.

We wanted to see the "Chinese Dam". We packed all the kids in the car and made the trek.  We only got lost a few times. :) When we finally traversed all those bumpy dirt roads, we parked and hiked the rest of the way in.  We were shocked and ecstatic to walk past a truck that had a hot air balloon basket in its bed!  Annie is pretty much obsessed with hot air balloons to the point that we seriously considered figuring out how to get her a ride.  Um $500, nope.  So this was the next best thing.  We took a couple of photos and kept going.  As the trail got steep going down and rocks started tumbling, I (Amy) imagined my children tumbling down as well.  I have a fear, not so much of heights, but of my kids falling off cliffs.  I held Asher, Jesse held Jessica's hand and we made it.  WOW!!  It was gorgeous and much bigger than we expected.  What a strange place for a dam, seemingly in the middle of nowhere!  The kids were loving it, and I was pretty much hyperventilating and wanted to get back up to safety as quickly as we could.  The hike back up was so steep I literally had Asher in a football hold while I used my other hand to rock climb up.  It was worth it.  All of us made it through alive.  :)  It was sprinkling off and on during and after that.

When we got back the kids played outside, we ate sandwiches and the kids played outside some more.  Annie's flip-flops floated away in the river while she and John were playing and John dove and got one, and then he ran/walked along the bank until he could get the other one so he saved the day!  They also found some rusty train spikes. We brought up a couple of bikes and used a couple at the cabin and the kids rode in circles around the driveway.

For dinner we had homemade vegetable soup and hot dogs.  Later in the evening we roasted corn and had s'mores.

Asher found a seat in the windowsill just his size!
Friday: We ate cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  It had rained all night and rained all day.  It was only  in the 60's.  Strange summer weather.  The kids played some games and played Lego's while Alexis and I read Reader's Digests.  Jesse enjoyed relaxing (headache and back pain-he's like an old man).  For lunch we ate at the Bread Basket, our tradition.  It's a cute Mennonite place.  The kids bought pocket knives and candy at the little store.
Due to the rain, we went into Bonner's Ferry which was busy due to a Bonner's Ferry High school reunion (all years).  We went to the museum.  A bargain at only $5 for the whole family.  It was surprisingly good.  We enjoyed it.  It is bigger than it looks from the outside.  We learned that the Chinese Dam is called the Eileen Dam and we wonder where the Chinese Dam name came from.  The lady at the museum and another local we asked had never heard it called that.  We went back to the cabin and made tinfoil dinners.  The rain let up enough for Jesse to get a fire going outside to cook them and have s'mores again.  The kids played more games and John whittled with his pocket knife.  Annie burned her finger pulling a rock out of the fire.  It blistered, so she had to have her finger on a cold can of pop all night.  Jessica came out of the bathroom with a bloody finger and said a mosquito got her, but she had really gotten into a pocket knife and didn't want to get in trouble.  Nurse mom was busy, but nothing too bad.  Rained all night again.

Saturday:  Had mini boxes of cold cereal.  Kids played inside while Amy and Jesse packed and cleaned.  The rain became a sprinkle and we sent the kids outside.

Hardly any mosquito's this trip, but there were a lot of bees, and they were aggressive.  Luckily no one got stung.  Julia worked on a little replica of the cabin for much of her time there.

We had soup and leftovers for lunch and headed out around 2pm.  Another fun year at the Moyie!!
Jesse, Amy, Alexis (14), Julia (12), Annie (10), John (7), Jessica (5) and Asher (2 1/2).

We drove up to the border, it wasn't as exciting as we thought it would be...

The views on the ride home were beautiful though!

Meal at the Moon's 7/2013

We had a nice meal at the Moon's after the baby blessing.  I have never seen a bigger couch than this!  It seats at least 20!  I guess that's what you need when you have 12 kids!
This is Annie's first time on a motorcycle.  She was quite nervous, but cute!
Hallie and Grandma Feller.
Asher is an adrenaline junkie.  Uncle Christian was scared.
Annie wasn't nervous with dad.

Asher was upset I wouldn't let him drive a motorcycle or scooter by himself.

She likes Grandpa Noack!
Hallie got a lot of attention!
